For a custom cutout, if there's any part of the subject hidden from the background, we always include a small part of the background in the hidden area. That way, the result will look much more natural. In our example, the puppy's paws are hidden inside the grass. If we only keep the subject itself, whatever parts of it are visible in the photo, will also be visible on the pillow. Thus we have the second choice as the default one.
